2022 Battle of the Books

Congratulations to all participants of this year’s Battle of the Books, including first place teams from Enka High School, Valley Springs Middle School, and Haw Creek Elementary School.

Battle of the Books is a powerful literacy program that encourages students to read books from a variety of genres and then work as a team to successfully share their knowledge of the books in a competition setting, said Ms. Janet Frazier, BCS instructional technology and media systems facilitator. Participants get out of their comfort zones and learn to speak boldly in front of others, collaborate as a team, and persevere through lists of books that are long and varied. This year’s lists consisted of 15-23 challenging books, depending upon the grade level.

“We are thrilled that so many students enjoy Battle of the Books and congratulate our winners on their accomplishments as they progress to the next level of competition,” she said. “I also commend all our participants on their hard work as they read the many books in preparation for competition. This is a win-win for all of us in our schools!”
