Horizon Club

Horizons is a place youth can participate in clubs like Surviving The Zombie Apocalypse, Art, and Sports, and get tutoring and homework help.  It is grant funded so it's completely free to families.  Horizons runs Monday-Thursday on site at North Buncombe Middle School from the end of the school day until 6:30 pm.  Enrollment forms are available in the school office.

From the YMCA Website

The YMCA Horizon program closely partners with Buncombe County Schools to serve hundreds of middle school students and families.  We offer grant funded programs which are no cost to youth and families.  Our after school sites operate October – May, Monday-Thursday on days school is in session.  We have special activities and field trips on most early release days and occasional Fridays.  We currently have programs at Reynolds Middle, Owen Middle, Erwin Middle, Enka Middle, Enka Intermediate, North Buncombe Middle, Cane Creek Middle and Valley Springs Middle.  Students join us when they are released from school and we provide structured activities until 6:30PM.

Each day students will be given a snack, participate in a club or activity, and receive homework help and tutoring from Buncombe County teachers, teaching assistants and outside tutors. We offer clubs led by Horizon staff, we support teacher led after school clubs and we have community partner led clubs and activities.  We have amazing community partnerships with several organizations in Buncombe County who come out to site to lead activities with the youth. Asheville Museum of Science leads a STEM club, FEAST conducts nutrition and cooking class, LEAF in Schools and Streets provides classes including African Drumming and a Comedy Club. Our Horizon-run clubs include Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse, Wilderness Survival, Art, Board Games and Sports.  No matter a youth’s interest, we have a club they can join and activities they will enjoy. We also partner with United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, The Literacy Council of Buncombe County, AmeriCorps and other organizations to provide services to youth and families.

You can register your youth online or pick up an enrollment form in the school office.
